One Room Challenge Fall 2018 ~ REVEAL!!

Welcome to Week 6 of One Room Challenge and you all know what that means: it's REVEAL day!  In 42 short days, 20 featured designers and over 200 guest participants have rolled up their sleeves, overcome countless surprises, and exceeded all expectations to transform their rooms for one common goal: to celebrate creativity, original ideas, and to inspire.

week 1 / week 2 / week 3 / week 4 / week 5

all photos beautifully captured by Stephani Buchman Photography

I have been working on this townhome for sometime now and you have seen the kitchen and the guest bedroom in my previous ORC makeovers, but today it's all about the home office.  Once a room jam-packed with "goodies", my first task was to decluttered the space by organizing the walk-in closet and to move most of the items for the home office into the guest bedroom so we could conceptualize and visualize the functional requirements and design elements of the space.

I am proud to say that this blank canvas is no longer a builder basic box.  It is feminine without being girly, glamorous but not old Hollywood, and sophisticated with a whimsical touch.

The room is 10' x 17' so we could comfortably set up two distinct zones: work + lounge.  Let's start with the work zone.  The brass and glass desk (actually a vintage extendable dining table) has a streamline design and though large in size, it feels airy and not overpowering the space.  To give the room an overall contemporary edge, I have paired the desk with a sleek iconic Drop chair in white.

I totally lucked out on the table lamp at HomeSense and it looks almost identical to the Cleo table lamp by Kelly Wearstler.  While we are checking out the beautiful tablescape, let's all get mesmerized by this sensational masterpiece by Angela Chrusciaki Blehm.  It is an absolute showstopper and yes, you all need to get one!  The striking black and white ribbon in Angela's signature style, the creative play of colors, and the three-dimensional quality, what is not to love?

Another key component of the work zone is the deco style credenza on the adjacent wall.  The pair of vintage Murano sconces has a circle motif that echoes the curve of the credenza and its original round brass knobs.  The tri-paneled / colored mirror (I have the same one in my own dining room), the gorgeous bowls by Toronto artist Shay Salehi, plus the modern glassware, accessories, and elegant calla lilies complete the look.

Of course we need to take a break or two during a busy day and that's what the lounge zone is for.  Whether you are looking to relax on this stunning settee or sit by a couple of cozy pillows for an afternoon read, we have got you covered.

To juxtapose against the glam factors in the work zone, we have opted for contemporary furnishings in the lounge zone.  From the settee, side table, and drapery to the lucite and glass bookcase, black wire baskets, and accessories, every piece has a geometric flair.

For a cohesive look, a limited Chanel No. 5 print and an edgy round stool with storage anchor the room.

Last but not least, let's take a moment to appreciate this beautiful backdrop of blush on all the walls.  From out of stock to installation, this transformation wouldn't be completed if it wasn't for the amazing teams at Crown Wallpaper and Symphony Wallcovering to make the impossible possible.

Hope you all love this home office as much as I do.  Thank you Linda of Calling it Home and Better Homes and Gardens to provide design bloggers and content creators an inspiring and supportive platform to showcase our creativities and what could be achieved in your own home!

Now if you are wondering where I found all the fantastic furnishings and accessories in the home office, here is the complete source list:
  • Chanel No. 5, throw on settee, vase on side table, books, lucite bookcase, black wire baskets, stone bowl, round upholstered stool, faux fiddle leaf plant, table lamp, marble board, round mirror, green marble candle | HomeSense Canada
  • curtain hardware | RH
  • custom curtain | fabric: Schumacher, fabrication: Wesley Seto Design
