#IDS17: Sneak Peek + Giveaway + Promo Code

Hello Monday and welcome to 2017!  To be honest it was really hard to come back to Canada after spending a few weeks in Europe over the holidays (see my IG #eurovacy), especially when Chris and I totally lived as locals: checking out museums, sitting at cafes, and running in the parks.  My life in Toronto felt a bit foreign to me when I first came back as my heart is tricking me into believing we should be living in Europe!

Luckily the 19th edition of IDS Toronto (#IDS17) will be in Toronto in 10 days to bring me back to reality by showcasing the latest in designs, inspiring industry insiders and design enthusiasts through engaging programs and aspiring talks with superstar designers, and wowing all visitors with design concepts, product innovations, and cutting edge technologies to be introduced in their own home.

I am a big fan of Caesarstone (see the collaboration with Tom Dixon at IDS16) and in 2017, Caesarstone will join forces with Spanish artist-designer, Jamie Hayon, to create a whimsical universe inspired by the natural and mythical worlds, synthesizing over 48 Caesarstone colors, along with glass and metals, into a kaleidoscopic installation - Jamie's signature artisan skill set - at #IDS17.

Entitled "Stone Age Folk", Jamie blends fantasy with functionality, playfulness with craft, and interactivity with cultural reference.

“People tend to see Caesarstone as a material that is only used in kitchens, but I looked at it from the viewpoint of an artist and designer. With this in mind, I wanted to create my own imaginative cosmos, using the brand’s quartz material alongside other noble materials like glass and metal.” – Jaime Hayon

Are you a fan of the hit TV series: Million Dollar Decorators?  I AM (still re-watching it at night) ... so you could imagine my excitement when I learned that the incredibly talented designer and tastemaker, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, will be at IDS17 on Globe Style Saturday!

Internationally acclaimed for his trademark glamour and flair for the exotic in his interiors, fabrics and wallcoverings, Martyn's work includes exquisite homes for A-list celebrities and iconic hospitality properties that are consistently featured in design publications.  Here are a couple of absolutely gorgeous spaces designed by Martyn:

The Maker is back at #IDS17 with some of my favorite local small batch makers including KROFT, Christopher Solar, and Hennepin Made from the US.  Known for their exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail, be ready to be blown away by their ingenious creations this year!

Studio North and Prototype provides emerging designers and independent studios a high-profile platform to showcase their custom work and to connect with potential clients, manufacturers, trade professionals, buyers and media.  608 Design, ANONY, Justin Bailey, and Khalil Jamal are some of my favorites.

designboom mart offers 30 independent designers from all over the world to introduce their self-produced or limited-edition collections to the Canadian market.  I love checking out the designbloom mart because the piece you fall in love with could actually go home with you on the same day!  I look forward to checking out the new collections by Devin Schaffner and David Morgan.  How about you?

From the interiors to the exteriors, #IDS17 is determined to wow us through The LAB, Ontario Wood, and Open Air, illustrating the latest collaboration between technology and design, spectacular sculptural and sustainable designs with locally-sourced wood, and innovative solutions to seamlessly extend our living space outward.  I look forward to learning something new at the show.

From fabrication warehouse, artist studio to lounge party, the PARTISANS FACTORY installation is where making and doing meets play and performance.  In collaboration with LightForm, PARTISANS will celebrate its launch of Gweilo, a custom line of sculptural lights that manipulate the dynamic movement of luminosity to architectural effect, and the LAMP award-winning light will be hand-sculpted and made-to-order at #IDS17.

  13. My husband & I love attending IDS for design ideas and inspiration. Last year, we were focused on our bathroom renovation. We were able to find solutions to some of our design issues & inspiration for decor. This year we are looking to complete a bedroom reno as well as a backyard space redesign. I'm looking forward to the Ceasarstone installation because it sounds inspiring even though we aren't working on our kitchen this year. We will definitely be taking notes in The Lab (we are tech geeks) and Open Air for our outdoor project. We will also be looking for as many Canadian based products as we can to complete our projects. It's been years since I have been to the opening night party, we usually attend on the weekend. I'd be thrilled to win tickets to attend this year. Thanks Tim!
