Sarah's Rental Cottage ~ Guest Room & Sunset Deck

Hello Tuesday and what a fantastic weekend we had in Toronto! Spring is finally here ... although I kind of felt like we just landed right in summer when Chris and I had our first picnic sitting by the Grand River with 26C in the air.  Beautiful weather means one thing to me: cottage living ... and on that note, Sarah Richardson and Tommy Smythe have done it again at Sarah's Rental Cottage! Today, we are checking out the cheerful guest room.

It is hard to believe this bright, happy guest room was once a dark, dingy storage room filled with "stuff".  Determined to make the most out of this under-utilized space and turn this rental property into a 3-bedroom summer paradise, Sarah and Tommy put on their creative caps and the result is nothing short of spectacular!

In keeping with the relaxed, casual cottage living style, the guest room is clad with natural pine (white-washed of course ... it's a Sarah's Cottage after all) and accented by this beautiful block-print inspired fabric, Leaf Forever in Yolk, from Tonic Living.  The repurposed "treasures" original to the cottage such as the paddles and vintage ski gear are now the perfect accessories in this charming guest suite.  The vintage wicker chairs and painted dresser add instant character, while the pair of mirrors above the bedside tables create subtle visual interest and to brighten the room by reflecting natural lights.  The green accent color is an ideal complementary color to echo the natural surroundings of this chic mid-century inspired rental cottage.

While it maybe hard to leave this cozy guest retreat, the sunset deck is definitely the spot you want to be to soak up the breathtaking view as the sun melts into the horizon.  Well loved for the past few decades, this wooden deck has seen better days and a complete overhaul in both structure and style was required.

Here is the vastly improved sunset deck reconstructed in cedar and dressed in durable outdoor furniture with style.

Love how Sarah added the steps to allow for easy access to the water.  You no long have walk around the deck to dip your toes into the refreshing water while enjoying the beautiful view.

Up next is the kitchen and the bathroom ... come back next week to see the transformation!
