Open House Overhaul w/ Sam Pynn ~ First Impression & Mystery Solved

Hello Thursday! It's bright and sunny out and you know what that means? Spring is finally here to stay and the housing market is kicking into high gear!  Now if you are planning to put your home on the market and hoping for a quick sale at top dollar, you have got to watch Samantha Pynn's transformations, Open House Overhaul, on HGTV Canada.

This week's challenge starts with a dark, un-inviting foyer with an adjacent living / dining room that's long and narrow + a mystery room in the middle with four doors!  Well, this foyer is now light, fresh, and high in style thanks to the light blue walls, the crisp white railing, the sophisticated striped runner, an eclectic mix of statement furniture pieces, and most importantly, the custom panel detail for an impressive first impression.

This foyer captures buyer's attention immediate and really, who wouldn't want to see more of this home?

The narrow living / dining room has great features such as a couple of large bright windows and wood flooring in good condition.  However, most buyers couldn't envision themselves living here because they were distracted by the dated roll-arm sofas, the oversized hutch and dining table, and the peachy color that wraps around the entire room.

Well can you envision yourself living here now? I most certainly can!

The light blue walls now complement the mid-toned floor.  The simple molding panels create an excellent focal point to position the classic sofa in charcoal grey + a dynamite piece of art, and to visually dividing this long space into distinct zones.  The room now makes sense to potential buyers.

The upholstered ottoman on casters is a fabulous solution to narrow entertaining space since it could easily be turned into additional seating when required.  The handsome stripe and herringbone patterns   add a masculine touch to balance the more delicate elements such as the light blue walls and the curvaceous side chair.
