Real Potential w/ Sarah Richardson: Jasmine & Kevin + Afsaneh & Andrew

Hello Wednesday! I hope the grey sky doesn't take us into fall/winter blues because the transformations inside these two homes at Week 7 of Real Potential are definitely spectacular!

Jasmine and Kevin sold their home and having been living in a hotel for 6 months while searching for their dream home.  I like staying at a hotel once in a while, but 6 months is just a minute too long.  The couple are eager to move out of their contemporary hotel suite and the problem: Jasmine likes mid-century modern and Kevin digs the streamlined, modern (almost institutional) look.

Armed with years of real estate experience to see through dated decor and unearth hidden potentials, Sarah transformed a dated family room with a pizza oven window into this bright, airy contemporary entertaining central that brought Jasmine to tears.  Good tears!

I am going through a similar challenge at #ProjectChris.  Chris likes spaces that are ultra modern and I am all about timeless classics + charms & characters.  This relaxed hang out spot is certainly going into my idea book for a good compromise on our differences in design aesthetics.  The secret weapon to make it all works: keep the walls white and neutrals! The streamlined furniture pieces (check out that floating media cabinet) are all singing Kevin's tune, while the warm wood tone, the softness of the stripped area rug, and a hint of sunshine on the drapes had Jasmine at Hello.

A fantastic fireplace is a must for me in a family/ friends gathering space.   Check out this handsome fireplace dressed head to toe with these sensational natural stones! I DIED.  This spacious room also allows for a cozy corner for the couple to enjoy a glass of wine and unwind after a busy day.  Really … what's better to do in the evening than to lounge on these super comfy chairs in front of the fire?

The dining area is situated on an elevated level and to emphasis the soaring ceiling height, a series of large sized glass bubble pendants are installed to make a subtle yet dramatic statement.  The view is everything in real estate, and this dining room most certainly has the best seats in the house.

The glass and steel railing is yet another detail I adore in this room.  Any other construction would have obstructed the view and here, the dining room is seamlessly connected with the rest of the room. CLEVER!

Off to Makeover #2, Afsaneh has been house hunting for a long time and her current dwelling is just too small.  Andrew, the very smart partner in crime, decides to join in during the shopping + decor process to make sure his voice is heard.  Something Chris missed out on when I was redecorating mine.  I am sure he is still kicking himself for not being more involved when I made the call to hang a chandelier right at my foyer!

Back to the makeover, it is hard to believe this hip, stylish kitchen filled with storage was once a cramped alley kitchen.  With smart space planning and minor structural changes, Sarah was able to double the cabinet capacity, set up a breakfast bar for two, and inject loads of characters that reflect Afsaneh's and Andrew's personalities.

I never thought I would like a busy and dark floor tile.  But hey, Sarah has done it again to open my eyes to possibilities, and I think this floor is FABULOUS!  With the rest of the space being pure white, it needs something to ground the space and this graphic stone tile is perfect for the task.

A sleek range hood, a built-in cook top and range is what I dream of at #ProjectChris.  Sadly it's a touch beyond budget at this point.  Now if you are looking for a show stopping backsplash, why not turn your favourite photo into a piece of art you get to see every time you are in the kitchen?  I just love that pop of bold colours and a sense of urban authenticity.

Now here is a breakfast bar we all need in our own home.  It is bright, comfy, and a view to the garden!    I could sit here all day, everyday! Also love that Sarah has utilized every square inch of the space; she even incorporated a beverage bar at the bump out: a previously unused corner.

Now if you wonder where the pops of bright colours we see in the kitchen came from … well, how is this mid-century modern foyer for a stunning first impression? HEART!

Hope you are taking as much notes from these two inspiring transformations as I do … and I would love to know which tips would you use in your own home!
