Marshalls: Grand Opening at College Park, Toronto

Hello Monday!  How was your weekend?  I had to work on Saturday (that darn day job) and that left me with only 1 day to relax and to re-engerize myself for yet another long work week to come.  Luckily, the weather was amazingly co-operative on Sunday and I got to enjoy the benefit of living right by the water front: a relaxing walk along the waterfront with my latte.  Oh I also squeezed in a little shopping spree at Universal Lighting 10 minutes before closing and scored some spectacular pieces for Project Rental.  More to come on that this Friday but in the meantime, you can check out my Instagram for a sneak peek.

Speaking about shopping spree + sneak peek, the lovely ladies at Marshalls invited me for a media preview and an ultimate shopping experience at its brand new flagship store at the heart of downtown Toronto.  This 55,000 square feet location offers the latest fashion must-haves, designer and brand name boxed footwear, and it features Marshalls' very first home decor department.  Marshalls is set to open 13 new locations across Canada this year and by summer 2013, all of its locations will offer home decor along with apparel and accessories.

For the grand opening of its flagship location, Marshalls have teamed up with style expert, Luigi Carrubba, to create four inspiring vignettes that high light the vibrancy and character of four distinct neighbourhoods in Toronto.  UPTOWN is all about the latest fashion must-haves and knowing how to wear them.  The collection is polished, well-tailored, and sophisticated.

Ladies, say hello to this beautiful DKNY leather handbag and OMG is right when I saw this pair of elegant beauty by Tom Ford.  While a few ladies had participated in the Cinderella contest, I think perhaps I should showcase this timeless beauty as art in a glass box.

Now we are in the ANNEX.  This neighbourhood is known for its unique mix of culture and folks from all walks of life.  To reflect the diversity and persona of such cool, hip, and quirky gal, Luigi uses a mix of youthful prints and patterns, statement sneakers in animal prints, bold 80's neon, and vintage-inspired pieces in this super fun collection.

How can you say no to this perfect spring outfit and check out this animal print fun!  LOVE!!

BAY STREET, I used to work there and the men are focused, driven, and have a great sense of style.  Here is how Luigi describe this collection: a perfectly tailored, slim fitting suit is his main squeeze during the workweek, accented with patterned button-ups, ties and pocket squares to show off his personality.  When it comes to home decor, his condo is sleek, contemporary, and is full of timeless/classic statement pieces such as the three-tierd chrome + glass nesting table set and the black leather tufted arm chair with antique brass nailhead detail.

QUEEN WEST is filled with street style inspiration and the locals are not afraid of fashion forward trends such as denim + leather and denim on denim.  When it comes to the home front, the space features an eclectic mix of high and low finds (often different in style/ era, which gives the space its character) with an exotic flair.   I particularly love the smooth rocker with a drift wood finish and that brass table lamp by Ralph Lauren.

After being totally inspired by the four vignettes put together by Luigi with Marshalls finds, I am ready to show you some of my favourite picks from the home decor department.  This pair of white wire lamps is both incredible in style and scale.  They must be almost 1 meter tall!  Thanks to the wire design, the pair demands attention and yet feel light and airy.  Lighting Obsession No. 2 is this lantern style lamp.  Classic design, great scale, and I just love that it is a bit unexpected in a sense that you actually put a light bulb in this lantern instead of a candle.

Pillow is the easiest way to add a hit of color and pattern to any space and in Marshalls, the hard working buying team has sourced pillows in every color of the rainbow for you to choose from.

I love this print from Trowbridge.  Isn't it just so much fun? Christine, maybe you need this in your fabulous home.

For the bachelor pad, I love this bar stool with leather upholstered seat, espresso legs and brass details for that extra luxe factor.  I also found this tailored, tuxedo style sofa from the Steven & Chris collection at Decor-Rest.  Too bad Chris' condo idea is not yet finalized, otherwise this bad boy would have been wrapped up with my name on it!

If you are in the market of dinnerware, you have to go check out Marshalls.  My latest find is this sophisticated set with a hammered metal-inspired edge by Ralph Lauren.  Gorgeous.

Marshalls at College Park is now open and with all these great finds, it is definitely time for you to check it out! Happy Shopping!
