Sarah Richardson: Standout Condo + Design Tips + Casting Call

Happy Wednesday! Are you loving all the white fluffy stuff landed on our door steps over the last 24 hours? Forecast has it that the snow will be on and off over the next couple of days.  This constant, steady snow fall reminds me of the winter wonderland in NYC.

Talking about our exterior being all things white after a coat of fresh snow, here is a refined + masculine condo wrapped with soft, smoothing white walls, and filled with unique treasures from the last few decades.  Ladies and Gents, this is a refreshing condo re-imagined by Sarah Richardson for Michael Prini of Primevista Television, who co-produced over 200 inspirating episodes with Sarah from Room Service, Design Inc., to Sarah's House and Sarah 101

Once again, Sarah has proven to us that a bachelor pad can be masuline and full of personality without being all dark and moody. From the exquisite art deco media unit, streamlined tuxedo sofa in sapphire, black + white hide rug, to a pair of vintage mid-century classics re-upholstered in a vibrant orange print by Lee Jofa, and a pop of cobalt (Launch, SR 40 by Para Paints), this spacious den is an absolute fit for a classy gentleman with champaign taste and sophisticated style.

The transformation is astonishingly remarkable.  Sarah and her team amaze me every time with their inventive floor plan.  By stealing some space from an extra wide hallway, the once enclosed kitchen is now a bright, inviting, and functional space.  The creative use of smoked mirrors behind the floating shelves brightens up the darkest corner in the kitchen, and visually expands the narrow space.  I love the chevron backsplash with the mix of mosaics and marble tiles for a fluid, dynamic look.

The sunroom features light sheers and a pair of iconic mid-century modern arm chairs.  Who wouldn't want to lounge here for a cup of tea on a bright sunny morning? Seriously!

The restful and tailored master retreat features a pair of classic side tables by Herman Miller, menswear inspired broadloom in classic pin-stripe, track system as window treatment for a clean-line look, pops of emerald green via table lamps, accent pillows, and original artwork by Michael Adamson.  The builder-basic closet was removed to allow for more attractive and practical storage, while a mid-century credenza in natural walnut adds warmth, character, and even more storage to the bedroom.

The bold and graphic floor gives the foyer an instant designer touch for a dramatic first impression.  The same color palette and design aesthetic carry into the guest bath.  Are you floored by this sensational condo yet? I AM! For additional fun, here is Sarah and Tommy on the making of this stand out condo fits for a stylish bachelor.

The February Issue of House & Home magazine is on newsstand now.  Be sure to pick up your own copy.  Trust me, you will want to keep a copy for future reference.

Sarah and Tommy also did a fun 10 minutes Q&A session answering your specific design questions. I have learned that (1) area rug should be at least 6 inches under the front legs of the furniture, (2) the diameter of your chandelier should be around 1/3 of the width of your room, and (3) how to create the perfect gallery wall, just to name a few.  Check out the fun Q&A here and be sure to send in your design questions next time!

As if this is not inspiring enough for a Wednesday morning yet, Sarah is ready to kick start a new show again and she wants your home!!  That's right, the casting call is on and if you have a place begging for a dramatic transformation, here is your chance to invite Sarah and Tommy over for an impactful before and after.

Happy Wednesday folks and yes, it's cold outside ...

  3. Love the chemistry between Sarah & Tommy, they seem like they're always having so much fun - I'd love to spend a day just hanging out with them. Can you imagine a home reno from Sarah and crew? A few months ago I saw the perfect fixer upper (hadn't been touched since the 50's) in a good neighbourhood, but I was too late to put in a bid. That would have been a Dream. Come. True!!

  6. Brrr it's cold out there today. Thanks for sharing Sarah's sizzle reel...they made me laugh. She and Tommy are so funny and dynamite on the screen. That Q&A got me thinking - my dining room is 15' x 15', I guess I need to get a chandelier that's 5' in diameter? That's going to be one huge lighting fixture.

    1. haha. ... well Tommy did say it's the max size. .. so I guess that depends on how dramatic you would like to go! I do think the bigger the better when it comes to chandelier!
