Our Home: Vanessa of Decor Happy

Happy Friday! The weekend is once again upon us and this is the last one in September.  Time truly flies and it is time for another house tour on "Our Home". Our guest is a talented decorator, a dedicated blogger, and a loving mother who has created the most chic + pretty bedroom and playroom for her 10 year-old daughter.  Let's put our hands together to welcome our guest (and my BFF) Vanessa of decor happy.

I have always loved the idea of a gallery wall, as it showcases your personality and your take on art.  However, it is certainly no easy task to curate a well executed one and the pressure is definitely on when a gallery wall is the focal point of the living room.  Vanessa did an amazing job with her creation above the newly slipcovered sofa (love the neutral cotton backdrop for maximum versatility and that gorgeous large scale polka dot pillow in gold) by mixing different styles and colors on the frames for a eclectic look.  With a collection of black & white photos, vintage prints, and one of a kind artwork in Vanessa's favourite colorways (blue and pink), the gallery wall is dynamic and impactful: the perfect "accessory" to take advantage of the high ceiling and what an eye candy the moment you walked into this inviting living room.

Similar color palette is carried into the adjacent dining room: soft grey drapery panels, pale pink table linen, a dramatic custom artwork with the most vivid shades of blue, and a pair of antique brass candle holders to echo the gold frames at the gallery wall.  I love how Vanessa "mix-and-match" her dining chairs with four classic bend wood singles and a pair of faux bamboo beauties (watch out Vanessa, I may just volunteer myself to "time-share" these chairs with you).  You can read up more on how to update/decorate dining room here.

Floral + watercolor print is one sizzling hot trend this year.  I first noticed it when I saw the refreshing floral story Margot Austin put together for the Canadian House & Home magazine, and I have been hooked since.  Of course the fact that the Jude bench by Sarah Richardson being upholstered in a floral fabric also helps seal the deal.

So you can imagine my excitement when I saw not one, but two watercolor floral wallpapers at Vanessa's home: one in the foyer and one in the powder room.  Gorgeous ... just absolutely gorgeous.

Being a professional decorator, Vanessa treats herself with an inspirational home office where she works her magic and creates amazing spaces for her clients.  You all know I love a rich, deep blue with muted gold.  See, I don't call Vanessa my BFF for nothing.  She totally reads my mind and I just died and gone to custom brass console heaven (it is called Vanessa and is available at Anvil Wrought Iron Furniture).  The large scale chalkboard idea is just the perfect touch in this home office.

All little girl loves pink and Vanessa's daughter is no exception.  To ensure this vibrant hue can grow into the teenage years, Vanessa had taken a more sophisticated approach to decorate Maya's bedroom and playroom.  With a drop of pink in creamy white for the walls, dark chocolate brown hardwood flooring, and a neutral area rug, this bedroom is ready to go for a total color swap if Maya changes her mind in the future.  Shots of pink is used strategically for drama including the ribbon band on the drapes, the scallop shaped headboard, the deep coral pillows and throw, and that prettiest hue of pink for the lamp shade.

Here is the perfect example of how to use a trendy color palette that does not result in a complete overhaul in a couple of years.  A vintage dresser is given a new lease on life with a coat of white paint and aren't these knobs super adorable? Love how the coral is complemented by the watery blue.  I don't know about you but I am crazy about that polka dot bowl and Vanessa, is that the coral tea cup we picked up together?

Maya is also a talented and creative little girl.  To embrace and inspire Maya for her crafty projects, Vanessa has certainly outdone herself and put together this stylish and fashion forward space with a dramatic floral wallpaper as the feature wall, a wall-to-wall surface for drawing and sewing projects, and I love that huge chandelier from West Elm!  The white drum shade and the natural wood element work beautifully with the bold pattern and intense color of the wallpaper.
