Week 7 @ Summer Home with Samantha Pynn

Morning Wednesday!  It is hard to believe but we have reached week 7 of Summer Home, and this is the finale of the incredible season.  Sam (along with Colin of course) has done such an amazing job to re-imagine, rejuvenate, and revive one summer home at a time.

For the final episode, Sam and Malcolm take Karen's and Greg's dated, dark, heavy, and cave-like indoor/outdoor space from this:

and turn it into a showstopper living, dining, lounging space one thin screen away from the great outdoor!  Quite a transformation eh? As Sam says, this project is all about mini decor makeovers, and together for huge result!  I simply couldn't agree more.

The million dollar view is absolutely selling feature of this property, and with this porch being high up on the second floor, we are literally dining in a tree house!  The original structural wood work on this porch is phenomenal.  Sadly, the add-on not so sightly bud screen and corresponding framing structure have put this beautiful master piece to shame.  For this mini transformation, Sam and Malcolm have painted all the wood work a warm white, removed the "add-on" screen structure, and installed a much more visually appealing screen system for bud prevention.

The end result? You won't even notice the bud screen is there, and can now enjoy the breathtaking view while dining with friends and family.

The fireplace is the "hub" of this porch.  It is also Greg's domain to prepare the delicious meals for the family.  It is hard to argue with Greg that his open wood burning fireplace covered with national stone is in need of a facelift.  For mini transformation #2, Sam brought in a new fireplace screen and installed slate tiles in dark grey for a contemporary touch ... not to mention Karen will never see another burnt mark on her carpet again!

Left of the dining zone is the living area.  Karen and Greg originally have four vintage outdoor chairs to encourage "casual conversation".  These chairs have definitely seen better days.  Determined to give the couple a much more functional and attractive hangout spot, Sam visited outdoor furniture giant, Andrew Richard Designs, for the ultimate seating essentials.

As you can see, Sam has put in a sofa, a loveseat, and two arm chairs.  From squeaky seating for four to stylish and comfortable seating for 7, Sam has almost doubled the potential of the living area without adding an inch to the footprint.  Sam's and Malcolm's vision is to have the beams and framing painted white to accentuate the architectural beauty of the porch.  With neutral outdoor carpet, dark grey slate tiles and low maintenance outdoor furniture, Sam uses pillows in shades of blue, red, and yellow to bring happiness, softness, and freshness to the space.

What a sumptuous, refreshing, easy breezy summer home!  I'm so jealous of Karen and Greg to have this beautiful space to relax and unwind up in Haliburton.  The sightline and the view are simply priceless.

This is a wrap for Season 2 of Summer Home.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sam and her talented design team for all their hard work and dedication to put together 13 inspirational episodes with loads of idea for us to take to our second homes in cottage country.  You can also check out Sam's cottage style tip here or catch the show again on HGTV Canada every Monday at 8pm ET.

Huge thank you to HGTV Canada for bringing such top quality show to us and provided me all the great shots of the rooms.

With the huge success and popularity of Summer Home, I am sure we will see a Season 3.  Until next Spring folks!
