Tommy: Tips on Occasional Chair

The last of Tommy's five-part series with Style at Home, sharing with us his favourite pieces of furnitures and accessories, focuses on the occasional chair.  I personally has a secret love afair with chairs and Tommy has just validated my relationship with chair in his column.

The occasional chairs should be versatile, comfortable, beautiful at all angles.  Afterall, this chair can end up in your entrance, hallway, bedroom, dining room, or even next to your deck!  Of all vintage chairs, I love Louis XVI the best for its masculine and not overly elborated aesthetic.

One key tip to keep in mind when picking occasional chair is to keep it neutral.  Afterall, this chair will move around the house and you want it to blend in with whichever room it sits.

Tommy was also on Cityline talking about his favourite chairs, a couple from his own home (edgy and timeless) and two others from the next season of Sarah's House!  If you've missed it, here is your chance to watch it.

During the Q&A segment, Tommy taught us how to choose an area rug and artwork to complete a living room with a daring red fireplace.

As for myself, my favourite occasional chair has to be the Saarinen executive chair with wood leg.  Its light weight makes room travelling an easy task and its simple and elegant design allows this chair to mingo perfectly with many decorating styles.

  1. An occasional chair is a beautiful piece of furniture that is an essential item in every house and one
such chair in beautiful hand carving, hand polishing and quality upholstery certainly goes on to enhance the decor of a living space, especially a library or a guest room and also adds to the functionality aspect.
