Road Trip: Chef in Action (NYC Edition)

One of the many perks of staying in condo instead of a hotel (not to mention fresh laundry and the 10am checkout time) is being able to cook meals!  Let's face it, if you're on vacation for two weeks, I bet you will crave a homecook meal by day 3 after the vacation excitement starting to wear off.

Chris and I were the fortunate ones that we were offerred to stay at my friend's condo while she was on vacation over the holidays.  We really enjoy cooking together and frankly, I personally enjoy a homecook meal more so than eating out (not to mention the MSG and the "meal budget" allocated to "shopping").

Here are some of the meal we cooked while on vacation:

Breakfast #1: pouched egg with smoked salmon, yogurt with organic cranola, and fluffy pancakes

Close-ups of these creations:

Breakfast #2: this is my birthday breakfast and hence the flowers, card, and chocolate from teuscher (love their packaging).  We started with tea, grapefruit juice, and cranola with yogurt and orange.

The real breakfast came with pouched egg on rostti with carrots and smoked salmon, graphfruit and grapefruit juice, and homemade latte!

Since we're on the topic of coffee, I will have to show you our new coffee machine!  What can I say... boys and their toys!

Getting the milk ready for the freshly brewed espresso:

Finishing touches with helps from this great find from Crate & Barrel.

Dinner #1: butternut squash soup with bread + chicken penne in carbonara sauce with Rose

The meal wouldn't be as successful without these secret weapons!  Not to mention the pasta sauces from WS was a total score ($4 each) from the WS Outlet.

Dinner #2: caesar salad + beef tenderloin with rostti and carrot, paired with rose ... and yes, I like my steak done medium rare

Closeups of the salad and look at our dessert: mochi in pistachio flavour!

Here is another version of Dinner #2: this time with sweet potatos

These were some of the meals we cooked during our trip to NYC ...  hope you enjoyed them as much as we did!
